Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Nursing Staff.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

134 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he will take to have the 5% special increase for staff nurses with 23 years service applied to retired staff nurses who retired before 5 November 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30277/00]

The Labour Court recommended the creation of 2,500 senior staff nurse posts as part of the settle ment of the nurses' strike. Staff appointed to these posts will benefit from the rate for the post on retirement.

There is no agreement to extend the benefit of the senior staff nurse increase to nurses who retired prior to 5 November 1999.

The matter has been raised by the Nursing Alliance and discussions are continuing on the matter under the auspices of the Health Service Employers Agency. In this context, my Department is consulting further with the Department of Finance on the issues raised.
