Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Serviced Land Initiative.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

156 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of sites delivered under the serviced land initiative since 23 April 1998; and the sum of money expended by the State on the Service Land Initiative in the same period. [30189/00]

The most recent statistics furnished by local authorities, end June 2000, indicated that 41 schemes with 13,488 sites had been completed. A further 38 schemes representing 38,476 sites were at construction at that stage and an additional 43 schemes representing 32,497 sites were expected to start before year's end. Once work on the provision of services has commenced the associated housing can normally be progressed in parallel.

Some 40% of the approved cost of serviced land initiative schemes is recouped by the Exchequer, with the remaining 60% raised by local authorities from developer levies. Recoupments to local authorities to date amount to £8.6 million.
