Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Community Games.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

237 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has met with the Community Games Organisation to discuss the problem of location for the community games in view of the fact that the Mosney camp has been taken over. [30152/00]

While I have no official responsibility regarding the location of the 2001 community games, nevertheless, it is a matter in which I have an interest.

Last week, my colleague, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Deputy O'Donoghue, met with representatives of the National Community Games to discuss the possibility of accommodating the games at Mosney. Officials from my Department were also present.

It was agreed that the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and the Directorate for Asylum Support Services will do all in their power to facilitate the community games movement in whatever way possible, with a view to the ESB community games taking place in the Mosney holiday centre next year. It was also agreed that immediate discussions would take place between officers of the community games and officials of the directorate to work out all the necessary details.
