Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

260 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in regard to the provision of permanent facilities at Scoil Uí Fhiach, Maynooth, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30389/00]

My Department has agreed to provide temporary accommodation for Scoil Uí Fhiach. The question of providing permanent accommodation is dependent on the acquisition of a site. Until such time as a site has been acquired it will not be possible to commence architectural planning for the new school nor is it possible to say at this point when the new accommodation will be available.

[30390/00]

My Department's planning and building unit has recently examined stage 1 submission, site suitability, briefing and site report, in relation to the proposed extension, as presented by the school to which the Deputy refers. The school authorities have been advised that it is now in order to prepare stage 2, outline sketch scheme.

In the past six months this project has progressed from preparation, submission and approval of stage 1 to approval to prepare and submit stage 2 documentation. My Department is now awaiting submission of stage 2 for consideration.

I propose to take Parliamentary Questions Nos. 265 and 272 together.

My Department's planning and building unit has recently given approval to County Kildare Vocational Education Committee to prepare and submit stage 2, outline sketch scheme, for the proposed extension at Maynooth post-primary school. Ceist:

267 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay for a building project in a vocational school (details supplied) in County Wexford; and when construction will start on the project. [30396/00]

In October 2000 the building unit of my Department wrote to the chief executive officer of County Wexford Vocational Education Committee in relation to the school to which the Deputy refers. A revised stage 3 submission, to include the proposed works to the existing mechanical and electrical installation along with a revised cost plan, was requested. When this information is received, the matter of advancing the project will be given further consideration.
