Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

Beverley Flynn

Ceist:

57 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo can carry out repair work to the bank of a river (details supplied). [30118/00]

I have referred this matter to the Western Regional Fisheries Board which has statutory responsibility for the protection, conservation, management and development of fisheries in its fisheries region.

The board informs me that the river referred to by the Deputy has frequent spate floods the severity of which are exacerbated by overgrazing on the surrounding hills.

The board invites the person referred to by the Deputy to send to it detailed drawings of the necessary works required to protect his land from flooding. The board informs me that following an examination of the plans it will make every effort to see that the person's needs are accommodated while also ensuring the protection of fisheries interest.
