Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

58 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the action he has taken or proposes to take to develop angling facilities in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30293/00]

Under the tourism angling measure, of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-1999 almost £18 million was made available to ensure that coarse, game and sea angling is upgraded to the best international standards.

The Central Fisheries Board, which is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the TAM, informs me that expenditure of over £568,000 was approved under the TAM in respect of three angling development projects in County Kildare the details of which are set out in the following table:

A figure of £24 million has been allocated for tourism and recreational angling under the national development plan 2000 to 2006. Of this amount, £7 million has been allocated for the southern and eastern regional operational programme. The detailed arrangements for the expenditure of this funding will be finalised and publicised in the near future and proposals for the development of angling facilities in County Kildare will be welcome.
