Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Protection of Children.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

116 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the precautions in force to ensure children are not brought into this country illegally or for illegal purposes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6087/01]

The Department of Foreign Affairs processes applications for visas from nationals of certain other countries in accordance with policy determined by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform. My Department will continue in that way to co-operate in controlling the illegal entry of children into the country. There are many countries whose nationals are not required to have visas for travel to Ireland and controls in which my Department does not have a role.
