Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Brucellosis Incidence.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

175 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of cases of brucellosis in humans recorded in the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6251/01]

Brucellosis is a designated notifiable disease under the Infectious Diseases Regulations, 1981. With effect from 1 July 2000 cases of such diseases are notified by the health boards to the National Disease Surveillance Centre, rather than to my Department. The number of cases of brucellosis reported in each of the last five years is as follows: 1996: 10; 1997: 7; 1998: 15; 1999: 19; 2000: 15, provisional.
