Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

183 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department, through the aegis of the National Roads Authority, will allocate funding to Kildare County Council to carry out the refurbishment at the Posslats bridge on Monasteen, Portarlington Road, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6212/01]

I assume the question refers to the Passlands bridge, which is situated on the non-national road R420 between Monasterevin and Portarlington.

I have recently announced a non-national road grant allocation of over £19.708 million in 2001 for Kildare County Council. This represents an increase of 111% on the 2000 allocation.

This allocation included £1.65 million under the EU co-financed specific improvements grants scheme. The council sought funding for six projects under this scheme in 2001, which did not include a proposal for the Passlands bridge. All six submitted schemes have been allocated funding in 2001.
