Vol. 531 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

203 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he hopes to allocate the remainder of the money for the Ballina Sports Complex, County Mayo, as this project urgently needs funding for completion. [6164/01]

A total of 95% of the grant of £400,000, that is, £380,000, allocated to this project in 1994 has been drawn down. Under the terms and conditions of the programme, 5% of a total grant allocation is retained pending confirmation from the organisation's technical supervisor that work on the project has been completed satisfactorily. Once this confirmation is received, the remaining £20,000 of the grant will be paid.

I can confirm that an application for funding has also been received from the organisation in question for the 2001 sports capital programme. Over 1,450 applications have been received under the programme, all of which will be evaluated in accordance with the assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations at the earliest possible date following completion of this assessment process.

Ceist:

204 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when funding will be allocated to a group (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [6165/01]

The sports capital programme for 2001 was advertised in mid-December 2000 with a closing date of 9 February 2001 for the receipt of completed applications.

I can confirm that an application for funding has been received from the organisation in question for the 2001 sports capital programme. Over 1,450 applications have been received under the programme, all of which will be evaluated in accordance with the assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations at the earliest possible date following completion of this assessment process.

Emmet Stagg

Ceist:

205 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason for the delay in issuing clearance on the tender for Ardclough GAA's new clubhouse, County Kildare; if he will expedite the clearance of same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6166/01]

A grant of £160,000 was allocated to the club in question under the 1999 sports capital programme. Under the terms and conditions of that programme, a deed of trust, executed by the Chief State Solicitor's office – CSSO – is required for grants in excess of £39,000.

The situation is that the CSSO has written to the club's solicitors on a number of occasions requesting title documentation required to execute the deed of trust and is still awaiting receipt of same. As soon as this is received and the CSSO can execute the deed of trust, I will arrange for immediate payment of the grant.
