Vol. 532 No. 2

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

155 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children if the cost of the medical test in relation to persons over 70 obtaining driving licences will be included in the medical card; and if not, if some other compensatory measure can be introduced. [7229/01]

The general medical services scheme provides a treatment and curative service for medical patients, including the provision of normal sickness certificates. The scheme does not extend to the issue of certificates relating to such matters as driving licences, insurance or assurance policies. I have no plans, at present, to change the conditions of the scheme to include medical card tests for driving licences for persons over 70 years.
