Vol. 532 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Ceist:

157 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will be in possession of information from each local authority housing department in connection with the request which Deputy Hayes raised five months ago seeking to find out from each relevant housing authority the number of local authority homes in each administrative area which do not have a central heating system; the date on which this information will be available from his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7056/01]

As indicated in replies to Questions No. 147 of 14 December 2000 and No. 835 of 14 January 2001, my Department has sought information from local authorities on the number of their rented dwellings which have full, partial or no central heating. To date, complete replies have been received from 42 of the 107 authorities concerned. The authorities whose returns are outstanding have been requested to submit the necessary information as soon as possible but it is not possible to say when all replies will be received. As I have already indicated, I will arrange to provide the information to the Deputy as soon as it becomes available.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

158 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has considered any housing option for a single parent earning £20,000 who is paying £200 per week in child care and who would currently be deemed to earn too much to qualify for local authority tenancy, and whose income would be too little to afford a shared ownership loan in view of her other outgoings; and if he will adjust the means test for local authority tenancies. [7057/01]

My Department does not set income limits for applicants for local authority housing. Any such limits are set by each local authority in their schemes of letting priorities in the light of local circumstances and I have no proposals to change these arrangements.
