The statutory agencies operating under the aegis of the Department are Comhairle, the Combat Poverty Agency and the Pensions Board.

The total expenditure in 2000 on advertising by the Department and by those agencies amounted to £1,018,176. The Department spent £775,812, of which £59,530 was in respect of television advertising. This covered advertising of departmental schemes and services in a wide range of media, exhibitions, seminars, etc., as well as advertising on Aertel. Comhairle spent £167,464, the Combat Poverty Agency spent £68,651 and the Pensions Board spent £6,249. None of the agencies incurred any expenditure in respect of television advertising and no expenditure was incurred by the Department or the agencies in respect of Irish language television advertising.
