Source: Hospital In-Patient Enquiry
The figures are derived from HIPE – hospital in-patient enquiry – data which gives details of activity in publicly funded acute general hospitals in the State. HIPE data is only able to record re-admissions to the same hospital as it is not possible to trace patients from hospital to hospital. The above figure includes all in-patient readmissions, that is, readmissions, for the same condition or an unrelated condition, and excludes day cases. Figures are provided for each of the years 1997 to 2000 inclusive. Please note that data for 2000 is not yet complete. Health board refers to the patient's place of residence. Non-residents are not included in the table.
