Vol. 532 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

160 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve the necessary funding required by a national school (details supplied) in County Cork to complete certain works. [7291/01]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): Construction is under way at the school and my Department is satisfied that the facilities being provided are adequate to meet the needs of the teachers and pupils. A schedule of furniture will be drawn up in due course and the appropriate resources will be provided.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

161 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the construction of Ennis national school; if the design and location of the building have been agreed; and when the project is likely to commence. [7303/01]

My Department is currently considering the most efficient and cost effective way of providing long-term accommodation at Ennis national school. Due to the large number of school building projects currently being processed by my Department and the priority to be afforded to such projects, it is not possible at this point to give any indication as to the timetable for the provision of the facilities. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

162 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the outcome of the discussions between his Department and Kildare County Council in regard to improved safety factors for children, parents and teachers at St. Wolstan's girls school, Ballymakealy, Celbridge, County Kildare; the extent of work or works undertaken on foot of these negotiations and agreements; when the works will be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7304/01]

A draft copy of the traffic management report for St. Wolstan's community school, Celbridge, County Kildare, was received in my Department on 12 February 2001. This report is currently being examined within my Department and when this examination is complete, the matter will be progressed further.

Approval has recently issued from my Department for the erection of a security fence at this school.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

163 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of building projects costing in excess of £1 million in the institutes of technology approved by his Department since 1995; and the current state of each project. [7327/01]

The information, in the format requested by the Deputy, is not readily available in my Department and the level of resources required to compile the information sought would not be warranted. However, if the Deputy wishes to obtain details of specific building projects, I will be happy to provide them.
