Ceist:198 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has satisfied herself that the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland has the necessary resources to monitor and implement the radiological protection legislation. [7681/01]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 191 and 198 together.
In so far as manpower resources are concerned in the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland, recently, and in response to a request from the institute, sanction for three additional posts to cater for new responsibilities arising under legislation introduced in 2000 was granted. This brings the total complement of staff to 45 full-time staff comprising scientific, technical and administrative grades.
With regard to financial resources, the institute received grant-in-aid of £1.746 million in 2000 and £2.07 million in 2001 to defray the cost of its day-to-day operations. I am satisfied, therefore, that in overall terms, and in line with its own view of resource requirements, the RPII is suitably resourced to monitor the use of radiological sources and to discharge its responsibilities under radiological protection legislation.
