Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teagasc Courses.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

239 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if his Department advised Teagasc regarding the curtailment of courses arising from the foot and mouth disease scare; if that advice extended to horticultural courses where there is no contact with animals; and if his Department will now give approval to Teagasc to recommence the diploma course in amenity horticulture at the Botanic Gardens, Dublin 9. [7787/01]

My Department did not issue advice to Teagasc specifically in relation to the curtailment of horticultural courses arising from the foot and mouth disease scare. Teagasc has been taking whatever practical measures it considers necessary having regard to the guidelines issued by my Department. I issued further guidelines on 16 March.
