265 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance the reason the contracts for the teachers at the Civil Service language training centre in October 2000 have been delayed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7392/01]

A draft contract for temporary language trainers was given to IMPACT, the union which represents the temporary language trainers in the language training centre of my Department, at a meeting in October 2000. Following that meeting, there were a number of outstanding issues which required further consideration. A revised draft contract issued to IMPACT earlier this month.

266 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance the reason the salary increases due to teachers in the Civil Service language training centre due under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness have been frozen since September 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7393/01]

The rate of pay for temporary language trainers in the language training centre of my Department was under consideration in my Department in the context of contract negotiations for that group. An increase in the hourly rate of pay, with effect from 1 October 2000, was approved earlier this month.

267 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether teachers at the Civil Service language training centre should be entitled to 5% salary increase plus an additional 3.5% for early settlement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7394/01]

The rate of pay for temporary language trainers in the language training centre of my Department was under consideration in my Department in the context of contract negotiations for that group. The payment of the 1 October 2000 increase of 5% plus 3.5% was approved earlier this month, retrospective to 1 October 2000.
