Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Value Added Tax.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

269 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if any lamb slaughter factory has been investigated regarding the payment of flat rate VAT refund on lambs from outside the State; the outcome of these investigations; and the amount of VAT recovered by the State since November 1998. [7494/01]

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that, based on the information currently available, there were some 30 factories active in the period covered by the question. Tax audits-investigations have been completed since 1 November 1998 in 11 of the companies involved. Audits-investigations are ongoing in four companies and are pending in three other companies. Recoveries for this period from these audits-investigations were in excess of £383,000, of which approximately £355,000 related to VAT. I am informed that audits-investigations will be initiated in the remaining cases before the end of this year.
