Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ambulance Service.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

312 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children the resources he proposes to make available to the Western Health Board to provide an adequate emergency ambulance service to cover the south Connemara area, County Galway; if he can make a special grant available for the provision of this service due to the remoteness of the area and the distance and traffic time from Galway city in the case of an emergency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7452/01]

Government policy in the development of the ambulance service nationally is as set out in the report of the review on the ambulance service which was published in 1993. The Western Health Board is developing its ambulance service in line with this report.

Funding of £1.796 million has been provided to the board in the current year towards the continued development of its ambulance service.
