Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Child Abuse.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

349 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children if, in relation to support groups for persons who suffered abuse in State-run institutions, his attention has been drawn to an imbalance in the financial contributions provided towards the cost of this work by different health boards with significant contributions in some areas and none in others; his views on whether it is equitable that the level of financial backing for such groups should depend on their location; if he will take steps to put in place a uniform national system of financial supports for such groups; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7716/01]

I have asked the health boards to provide me with information on the current levels of funding which they provide to these support groups.

When this information is to hand, I will communicate with the Deputy.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

350 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that four months have elapsed since he indicated in reply to a previous parliamentary question that a decision would be made very shortly in relation to an appeal submitted to his Department in October 1999 by a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; if he will now make a decision on this appeal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7717/01]

Unfortunately, consideration of this appeal has taken longer than anticipated. I hope, however, to be in a position to make a decision on the appeal within the next few weeks.
