40 Mr. Gilmore asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when she expects to publish the promised legislation arising from her consideration of the report of the Competition and Mergers Review Group of its examination of the Report of the Commission on the Newspaper Industry; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Government, on my proposal, authorised last October the drafting of the general scheme of a Bill to give effect to certain recommendations of the Competition and Mergers Review Group. The recommendations to be implemented in new legislation include the two recommendations made by the review group arising from the work of the Commission on the Newspaper Industry.
Work is progressing in my Department on the preparation of the general scheme and it is my intention that the Bill will be published later this year.
