Vol. 532 No. 4
431 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if EU Directive 96/96 concerning the categorisation of light commercial vehicles has been ratified and is binding here. [7913/01]
EU Directive 96/96/EC requires the roadworthiness testing of motor vehicles and their trailers. The directive is binding on all member states and its provisions have been implemented in Ireland.
Annex 1 of the directive sets out the categories of vehicles subject to roadworthiness tests and the frequency of the tests. Motor vehicles used for the carriage of goods are categorised in the annex according to their maximum permissible mass.
