Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Repatriation Grants.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

436 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the grants, subsidies or incentives, available to Irish persons living in England, who wish to repatriate and return to live here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7982/01]

There are no schemes currently available from my Department specifically to house emigrants from Ireland who wish to return home. Many who wish to return home are in a position to provide housing from their own resources. Others, however, may require accommodation from a local authority or approved voluntary housing organisation. Applications or inquiries about eligibility for local authority housing should be directed by the individual to the local authority in whose functional area they wish to reside. Information on accommodation provided by approved voluntary housing organisations may be obtained from the Irish Council for Social Housing, 84 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, which is the representative organisation for the voluntary and non-profit housing sector.

Other housing options which may be appropriate to returning emigrants include the shared ownership scheme and the affordable housing scheme. Full details regarding these options are available from local authorities.
