Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

David Stanton

Ceist:

445 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a submission from Cork County Council regarding a proposed sewerage scheme to serve Shanagarry, Ballycotton and Garryvoe in east Cork; the action he intends to take on the issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8149/01]

A draft design brief for this scheme was submitted to my Department in October 2000 but has not been approved. The scheme was included, as a 2005 objective, in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Cork County Council, for its southern division, in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002 announced last July.

Because of the level of competing demand and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis, it was not possible to include the scheme in the programme at that time.
