476 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when he will issue guidelines for those senior citizens who intend to remortgage their houses; the rules for those on means tested payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8205/01]
I am aware that a number of equity-release products have recently been introduced to allow home owners to benefit from some of the capital tied up in their homes, while continuing to live in them. My officials are currently examining these products and the manner in which money raised will impact on the means tested payments administered by my Department and will consider guidelines in the light of this examination.
