Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Olden Inquiry.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

523 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the Olden Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the release of a convicted murderer in a murder case (details supplied) will be published; if his attention has been drawn to the anxiety of the victim's family for the result of this inquiry to be made known immediately; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7664/01]

I am informed that the review being undertaken by Mr. John Olden is continuing and is now at an advanced stage but that he is not yet in a position to say precisely when it will be completed. As I have said before in this House, I propose to make the results of the review available to the House and to the family of the victim and I will give careful consideration to any recommendations which may emerge from the review. I do not believe it would be appropriate for me to comment further on the case until the results of Mr. Olden's review are available.
