Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects

Nora Owen

Ceist:

579 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will consider a major grant for a group (details supplied) in County Dublin where costs have escalated for their swimming pool project. [7706/01]

Under the swimming pool pro gramme grants of up to £3 million are available towards both the refurbishment of existing pools and the provision of new pools, subject in both cases to the total grant not exceeding 80% of the eligible cost of the project or, in the case of projects located in designated disadvantaged areas, 90% of the eligible cost.

In general there are four stages in a swimming pool project – preliminary report stage, contract document stage, tender stage and construction stage. Grants are not allocated until such time as tenders have been approved. The preliminary report which was submitted by Fingal County Council in relation to the proposed new swimming pool in Skerries was approved by this Department. The next stage is for the council to arrange for the preparation of contract documents for the work proposed.
