I received correspondence from Clonmany Tug of War Club on 12 May 1999 in connection with the possibility of the provision of funding. In my reply of 25 June 1999, I outlined the position with regard to the Sports Capital Programme and advised of other avenues for funding that they might wish to explore.

Ceist:584 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will investigate the provision of funding for an organisation (details supplied) in County Kildare which urgently needs funding for the provision of basic facilities for their members; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation (Dr. McDaid): Through the Sports Capital Programme administered by my Department, funding from the proceeds of the National Lottery is available to assist voluntary and community organisations with the development of appropriate facilities in appropriate locations which will maximise use in terms of participation in sport and recreation. The 2001 Sports Capital Programme was advertised in the national press on 15 and 17 December 2000. The closing date for receipt of application forms was Friday, 9 February 2001. An application was not received before this deadline from the organisation in question. However, an application was received from the Kildare County GAA Board, which lists the Kildare Ladies Footballers as one of the groups which would benefit if funding were to be allocated to its project.
More than 1,450 applications have been received under the 2001 programme, all of which will be evaluated in accordance with the assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations at the earliest possible date following completion of this assessment process.

An application for funding has been received from the organisation in question under the 2001 Sports Capital Programme. More than 1,450 applications have been received under the programme, all of which will be evaluated in accordance with the assessment criteria which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme.
