590 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will list the outstanding major grant applications being considered by him arising from the young people's facilities and services fund; the amounts required in each case; when a decision will be reached; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Government set up the young people's facilities and services fund in 1998 to develop youth facilities, including sport and recreational facilities, and services in disadvantaged areas where a significant drug problem exists or has the potential to develop. The three-year fund aims to attract young people in those areas, at risk of becoming involved in drugs, into more healthy and productive pursuits. Over £37 million has been allocated to support measures under the fund.
All allocations under the current round of the fund have now been made. Shortfalls have come to light in the case of five of the capital projects which were approved for funding. A list of the projects and the current estimated shortfalls, totalling over £10 million, follows. I am in consultation with the development groups and Dublin Corporation in relation to these projects and I hope to be in a position to decide shortly on how best to proceed in relation to these shortfalls.
