Under section 21 of the Companies Act, 1990, I am prohibited from publishing the results of my Department's examination of the books and documents of Ansbacher (Cayman) Limited which concluded in June 1999. However in accordance with section 21, I have disclosed this report to the Minister for Finance, certain officers authorised by the Minister for Finance in the Revenue Commissioners, the Central Bank, the Ansbacher inspectors and the Moriarty and Flood tribunals of inquiry for their attention.
The Ansbacher inquiry is being undertaken by inspectors appointed by the High Court in September 1999 at my request and they will make their report to the court in due course. While I do not have any firm estimate as to when the inspectors work will be concluded, I anticipate that their report will be ready within the next 12 months. Section 11 of the 1990 Act permits the publication of this report and I hope that the High Court will order its publication at the appropriate time.
