199 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the status of the town renewal grant scheme announced in September 2000; the number of towns in respect of which applications have been made; the number of schemes to which money has been allocated; the number of schemes under way; and the number of schemes completed. [10404/01]
I assume from the Deputy's question that she is referring to the grant allocations I made under the urban and village renewal programme 2000-06. This programme forms part of the National Development Plan 2000-2006 under the regional operational programmes for the Border, midland and west and south and east regions. Following are the details of the allocation I announced on 3 April last.
The selection and prioritisation of projects to be funded under the new measures will be a matter for the local authorities, having regard to the detailed guidelines for the programme which I have now issued to the various local authorities. Local authorities have been asked to prepare strategic documents-plans under the scheme and these have to be submitted to my Department by 31 May next.
