Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Extradition Requests.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

189 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, having regard to his replies to previous parliamentary questions and notwithstanding his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 130 of 5 April 2001, he will state the precise position regarding the prisoner and specifically, the status of the extradition proceedings; whether there are other charges pending in this jurisdiction; whether charges existing or pending in another jurisdiction are minor; the total cost to date associated with the process of court hearings and extradition proceedings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11216/01]

My Department has received from the governor of Clover Hill Prison a copy of a letter dated 6 April 2001 from the person in question addressed to the chief registrar of the High Court stating that he now wishes to withdraw the appeal against his extradition as he is consenting to being delivered into the custody of a member of the appropriate police force. The matter is being brought before the High Court today by the State's law officers. In the circumstances, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further on the case.
