Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Young People's Facilities and Services Fund.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

207 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will report on the allocation procedures for the young peoples facilities and services fund under the national development plan and the role of the national assessment committee in approving such allocations. [11148/01]

In establishing the young people's facilities and services fund in 1998, the Cabinet committee on social inclusion set up a national assessment committee, NAC, to prepare guidelines for the development of integrated plans in the target areas which meet the overall aims and objectives of the fund; to facilitate the establishment of the local structures charged with developing the plans and to assess the plans emanating from each of the target areas. The NAC makes recommendations to the Cabinet committee which makes decisions on funding to be allocated under the fund.

The NAC is responsible for monitoring ongoing progress in implementing the plans and strategies approved and addressing any difficulties-issues arising.
