Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Schools Refurbishment.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

233 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the current status of the application from the Holy Spirit national schools, Ballymun, Dublin 11, for refurbishment of the school hall and five classrooms; when this urgent work is likely to be carried out; and the proposals he has for providing additional new classroom space. [11283/01]

Architectural planning for an extension and refurbishment works to the central block at Holy Spirit national schools, Ballymun, Dublin 11, is well under way. However, the rate of progress to construction depends on factors such as the complexity and size of the project, the time required to undertake architectural planning, the volume of other projects being dealt with by the design team and my Department's building unit, the period of time required for the granting of planning permission and obtaining a fire certificate, the outcome of the tender competition and the procurement, where relevant, of bonds, insurance and tax clearance by prospective contractors. It is not possible to say at this point when construction will commence. However, the school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
