Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Victims Commission.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Ceist:

40 Caoimhgín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the work which has been done in his Department to facilitate the implementation of the Report of the Victims Commission published in July 1999; if he has had discussions on this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8761/01]

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

43 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress made to date regarding recommendations by the Victims Commission in those areas for which his Department has responsibility; if, in particular, a senior civil servant has been designated to advance and monitor the implementation of recommendations made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8018/01]

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

49 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason for the delay in implementing the recommendations of the July 1999 Victims Commission report by Mr. John Wilson; and if a senior civil servant in the Department of the Taoiseach has been designated to advance and monitor the implementation of the Commission's recommendations. [7821/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 40, 43 and 49 together.

Work has already commenced on implementing a number of the report's recommendations. The remaining recommendations cover a wide range of areas which fall within the areas of competency of a number of Departments and agencies, including my Department. Work, based on consultations with other Departments and agencies, is continuing on developing an implementation plan in respect of these remaining recommendations, including the recommendation that a high ranking civil servant, preferably in the Department of the Taoiseach, be designated to advance and monitor implementation. I expect to submit the plan to Government for approval in the near future.
