Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - Pension Provisions.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

156 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 126 of 13 December 2000, a decision has yet been made on the final report of the Commission on Public Service Pensions; if so, its effect on public service groups; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12477/01]

The Government has not yet completed its consideration of the final report of the Commission on Public Service Pensions. The report is a lengthy and complex document and contains many wide-ranging and far-reaching recommendations regarding public service pensions generally. As the Deputy may be aware, the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness provides that a working group of the public service unions, relevant Departments and other appropriate parties is to be established following Government consideration of the report to advise on the implementation of the relevant Government decisions with a view to introducing, as quickly as possible, any proposed changes in public service pension arrangements, including those for low paid workers. The Government will move to establish that working group when it has made its decisions on the commission's recommendations.
