Ceist:

162 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the granting of pocket money to elderly patients in health board nursing homes; the weekly amount; if it has been increased to £13 in all cases; if it must be requested or if it is automatically given to the patient; the person who must authorise the keeping of the money for funeral expenses; and if this can be done without the approval of the patient. My Department has written to the chief executive officers of the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards and has sought the information requested by the Deputy. As soon as I receive the information requested I will write to the Deputy with a detailed response.
