Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - School Security.

Ceist:

84 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Education and Science the action he will take to respond to the teachers of Jobstown Community College in connection with a number of serious instances which have occurred at the school in recent months in connection with personal safety and anti-social activity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11728/01]

Responsibility for ensuring the safety and welfare of all personnel present in schools is a matter for individual school authorities and in this particular case County Dublin VEC. In practical terms individual school authorities are best placed to assess the detail of their own security.

The building unit of my Department approved funding for the provision of CCTVs in schools under the control of County Dublin VEC. Jobstown Community College was identified by the VEC as requiring the installation of CCTV and was among the schools for which funding of CCTV was approved.
