Vol. 536 No. 4

Written Answers. - Economic Policy.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

125 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the degree to which he proposes to use his influence at EU level with a view to continued economic growth in Europe. [14449/01]

At the European Council in Lisbon in March last year, the EU set itself a new strategic goal for the next ten years of becoming the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social inclusion.

The Government has been responding positively to the Lisbon strategy in a number of ways at both national and EU levels and will continue with this approach. I refer the Deputy to an answer I gave on this subject on 1 May 2001, Ref No: 11762/01, a copy of which I will supply to him.
