Vol. 537 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

John Perry

Ceist:

206 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of vacancies available in his Department in Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon; the grades available; the number of persons on the transfer list to Sligo; the composition of the transfer list; if it includes persons that must adhere to the two year ruling clause; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16170/01]

There are currently no vacancies in my Department's offices in Leitrim or Roscommon. There are 529 posts in the Sligo headquarters offices of my Department. At present there are five vacant positions comprising one executive officer post, two staff officer posts and two clerical officer posts. There is no formal system of transfer at executive officer level, while at staff officer level, only one in five vacancies in a location can be filled by transfer, under centrally agreed arrangements. At present, there are six people on the staff officer transfer list for Sligo. The position regarding clerical officer vac ancies is that, in accordance with formal procedures agreed between the Civil and Public Service Union which represents that grade, and the Department of Finance, the names of officers applying for transfer to Sligo are entered on my Department's central transfer list in the order in which they are received. Vacancies which arise are then filled by reference to these lists. There are in the region of 170 names on the clerical officer transfer list for my Department's Sligo offices. The applicants are from a number of Government Departments, some of which have a stipulation whereby new recruits are required to serve in the location for which they are recruited for a minimum period of two years before being released for transfer to another location.
