70 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress made arising from his discussions with the motor industry in relation to measures for the safe and effective disposal of end of life vehicles; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15971/01]

I am writing this week to the main parties concerned in this matter, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, the Irish Motor Vehicle Recyclers Association and the Metal Merchants Association of Ireland, to confirm that their joint proposals for a practicable ELV management scheme should be submitted to me by the end of July.
