Vol. 537 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Traffic Management.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

84 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the submissions he has received on the consultation paper on institutional arrangements for land use and transport planning in the greater Dublin area; when he expects to bring forward legislative proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15966/01]

A consultation paper on proposals for new institutional arrangements for land use and transport in the greater Dublin area was published on 5 April 2001. A two month consultation period will expire on Friday, 8 June 2001. Interested organisations and persons were invited to comment on the paper's proposals and to date my Department has received five submissions. My Department expects several more submissions to be made before the expiration of the period.

Having regard to the outcome of the consultation process, I intend that legislative proposals will be brought forward without delay. A cross-departmental team led by my Department has been established to advance work on the preparation of the legislation. The intention is that the general scheme of a Bill will be approved by Government with a view to its enactment in the first half of 2002 and the establishment of the body by end 2002.
