Vol. 537 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Staff.

Michael D. Higgins

Ceist:

90 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received a request for a meeting from the Irish Planning Institute regarding its concerns regarding the filling of some major planning posts by non-professional staff; if he has met representatives of the institute; the outcome of any such meeting; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15957/01]

I received a request from the Irish Planning Institute for a meeting to discuss a number of local authority staffing issues. I pointed out to the institute that the management of staff resources is the responsibility of the city or county manager concerned. I indicated it would not be appropriate for me to intervene as matters of this nature are more appropriate to the industrial relations arena. I am not aware of any professional planning posts being filled by non-professional staff.
