Vol. 537 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Staff.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

92 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of cases in which disciplinary action has been taken against employees of local authorities arising from the reports he sought from county managers regarding possible improper involvement by staff in planning applications; if he has satisfied himself that there is general compliance with the code of practice laid down by the Local Government Regulations 1984; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15952/01]

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

183 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will publish the reports by city and county managers on alleged conflicts of interest in respect of officials, in particular, the reports for Dublin Corporation and Fingal County Council. [16143/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 92 and 183 together.

All reports relating to staff engaging in activities which were incompatible with their official roles were released by me on 17 April 2001 and copies are now available in the Dáil Library. As can be seen from the reports, the managers, who have primary responsibility for control and direction of staff in the local authorities, have generally stated that they are satisfied that private practice in breach of the Local Government (Officers) Regulations, 1984, has now ceased. The number of cases in which disciplinary action was taken is not available in my Department as not all reports provided that level of detail.
