208 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he supports the European Commission proposal to prohibit sow stalls for pregnant pigs in all EU member states; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16535/01]

I support the ban on sow stalls as currently outlined in the proposed European Council amendment to Directive 91/630/EC laying down the minimum standards for the protection of pigs.
