Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tax Credits.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

256 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance if he will set out the correct tax credit entitlement of persons (details supplied) in Dublin 12. [16593/01]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer's tax credits are as follows:

Personal Credit (Married) (£2,200 x 74%)

£1,628

PAYE Credit x 2 (£400 x 74% x 2)

£592

Rent Credit (max. credit for married couple under 55 £400 x 74%)

£296

Revenue Job Assist – Taxpayer 3rd year: (£1,000 x 20%)

£200

Revenue Job Assist – Child 3rd year (£333 x 2 children x 20%)

£134

Total tax credits

£2,850

The current tax year runs from 6 April to 31 December 2001. In general, allowances, credits, tax rate bands, exemption limits and some other annual amounts have been adjusted to take account of the short year. The short year tax credits are 74%, that is, 270 days-365 days, of the normal annual credits. The extra allowances to which the taxpayer is entitled under the Revenue job assist scheme have not been reduced.
