Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Civil Service Recruitment.

John Perry

Ceist:

266 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance when a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will be called for interview for the executive officer panel within the Civil Service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17020/01]

I understand that the Civil Service Commission, which is responsible for holding the competition, has invited to interview the candidates placed highest at the initial tests. It is not possible to say whether they will, in calling candidates to interview, reach as far as the placing of the person in question. However, should the candidate at any time have concerns in the matter, he should himself contact the Civil Service Commission.

Ceist:

267 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if he will intervene with the Civil Service Commission on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo and have her offered a placement in Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17021/01]

The recent clerical officer competition confined to former civil servants was held by the Civil Service Commission. The regulations were made by the Civil Service Commissioners and specified that candidates should, inter alia, have satisfactorily completed probation and have served in an established capacity. These requirements appeared also in the information booklet which issued to candidates. The regulations are statutory and binding. The person referred to in the question did not possess the requisite service and was deemed ineligible by the Civil Service Commission and notified accordingly.
