Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

272 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Finance if he will review the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1994; if, following this review, a driver with multiple sclerosis who has reduced power in her left leg and left arm can qualify; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17193/01]

The disabled drivers and disabled passengers scheme is currently under review by an interdepartmental group which is chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. The group is examining all aspects of the scheme, including the medical criteria. As the work of the review group is ongoing, I cannot comment on the likelihood of categories of persons, if any, who may benefit under the scheme should a widening of the scope of the medical criteria be agreed on completion of the review.
