The national cochlear implantation programme was established in Beaumont Hospital in 1995 and in January of this year the programme achieved its 100th transplant, 62 children and 38 adults. Funding for the programme, which enables deaf people to hear, is routed through Beaumont Hospital's annual allocation under an arrangement with the Eastern Regional Health Authority.
